Why Are You So Tired? (Spoiler: It's Not Just "Mom Life")
Let me guess. You woke up already tired. You had your caffeinated beverage of choice (maybe two cups). You pushed through your to-do list. And somewhere around 2pm, you hit a wall so hard it almost had a name.
And yet... you can't really explain it. You're not "sick." You're sleeping (sort of). You're eating okay. You're doing all the things.
So why does it feel like you're running through mud?
This Fatigue Has a Name
First, I want you to know that what you're feeling is real. Not dramatic. Not "just stress." Not something you should be able to push through with more willpower or a better planner.
It actually has a name.
For a lot of women in their 40s, this kind of bone-deep, can't-shake-it fatigue is often connected to hormonal shifts, adrenal load, and nutrient depletion. Your body is quietly going through some big changes, and it's doing that while you're still running a household, a career, a family, and approximately 47 mental tabs at once.
That's a lot. And your body is trying to tell you something.
3 Reasons You're Tired
1. Your hormones are shifting. Perimenopause can start in your late 30s, years before anyone thinks to call it that. Fluctuating estrogen and progesterone directly affect your energy, mood, and sleep quality β which means feeling "off" can start long before any of the symptoms you'd expect show up.
2. Your adrenals are overloaded. Years of juggling work, family, and everyone else's needs before your own put a real, measurable load on your body's stress response. When your adrenals are constantly asked to keep up with that pace, energy is often the first thing to give.
3. Your nutrient reserves are running low. Your body's need for certain nutrients shifts dramatically during perimenopause. If those needs aren't being met, your body simply doesn't have what it needs to produce steady energy β no matter how much you're sleeping or how "right" you're eating.
The Good News
Here's what I've learned, both from research and from living it myself:
Fatigue in your 40s is rarely about one thing β it's usually a combination of sleep quality, hormone changes, and everyday stress
Your body's need for certain nutrients shifts dramatically during perimenopause
Small, consistent wellness habits can make a genuinely noticeable difference β no overhaul required
I've been down this road, done the research, and found some simple, natural tools that have made a real difference for me and the women I work with. Over the next few posts, I'll walk you through what's actually going on and share the practical, natural solutions that are helping women feel like themselves again. No overwhelm, no fluff. Just real stuff that works.
Your Tip for This Week
Before we get into products or routines, here's something you can use right now. No shopping required, promise. π
These four little things have helped so many tired moms start to feel a little more like themselves. They're simple, they're free, and they work.
π 1. Eat a magnesium-rich snack before bed. Try a small handful of pumpkin seeds or a square of dark chocolate in the evening. Magnesium helps your body relax and your brain wind down. Think of it as your permission slip to snack after dinner.
π¬οΈ 2. Try the 4-7-8 breath. Breathe in for 4 counts. Hold for 7. Breathe out slowly for 8. That's it. Do it a few times and you'll feel your nervous system go, "Oh. Okay. We can calm down now." It's great when you can't fall asleep or just need a reset during the day.
π―οΈ 3. Build a 10-minute wind-down ritual. Dim the lights. Brew some herbal tea. Lie on the floor with your legs up the wall for 10 minutes. (Yes, the floor. Yes, it works.) This tells your body it's safe to rest. It's low-effort and surprisingly powerful.
π§ 4. Drink 16oz of water first thing in the morning. Before coffee. Before your phone. Just water. You wake up dehydrated and your body is already behind. Getting ahead of it first thing can seriously help with that 2pm crash you know all too well.
Start with one. Just one. You don't need to do all four tomorrow. Pick the one that feels easiest and try it this week. Small steps add up faster than you think. π
