Alright friend, let’s talk about how to actually use oils with your little ones in a safe, simple way. Kids respond beautifully to oils, but since their bodies are still developing, we just need to keep things extra gentle. Here are a few tips I always keep in mind:

Stick to topical + aromatic. Diffusing oils or applying them (diluted!) to the skin is perfect for children. Internal use can wait until they’re older.

Start tiny. One drop diluted in a carrier oil (like fractionated coconut oil) is plenty. Their little systems don’t need more than that. 

Pre-diluted rollers are your BFF. They make it easy to grab, roll, and go—without overthinking measurements.

Keep bottles out of reach. Oils can be tempting to curious kiddos, but just like vitamins or medicine, they shouldn’t be used without a grown-up around.

Be sun-smart. Citrus oils + sunshine don’t mix well. If you apply citrus oils topically, avoid direct sun exposure for 12 hours. ☀️🍋

Check with your doctor. Especially if your child has health concerns or you’re unsure about a certain oil, a quick chat with your pediatrician can give peace of mind.

Skip the “hot” oils on kids. Strong oils like cinnamon, oregano, or wintergreen are best saved until they’re older, as they can be too intense for sensitive skin.

BEST PLACES TO APPLY OILS ON KIDS

Bottoms of the feet. This is my #1 spot! Kids usually love it, it’s less sensitive than other areas, and it’s a great way for oils to absorb while they sleep. Bonus: tiny bedtime foot rubs = instant mama points. 🦶💤

Along the spine. This is an awesome spot when you’re supporting the immune system or just wanting oils to absorb quickly into the body.

Pulse points. Think wrists, behind the ears, or the back of the neck. These areas warm up naturally, which helps the oils do their job while also giving a gentle aromatic effect.

Abdomen. Perfect for tummy support! Just remember to dilute well and rub gently in a clockwise motion for extra comfort.

The great thing is—you don’t have to be perfect with application. The body is super smart and will use the oil wherever it’s needed. 🙌 But sticking to these kid-friendly spots makes it both safe and effective.

BLUEBERRY SMOOTHIE

INGREDIENTS

  • ½ cup frozen blueberries

  • 1 frozen banana

  • ½ cup greek yogurt

  • 1 scoop dōTERRA Chocolate Protein

  • 2 tablespoons natural peanut butter

  • 2 drops Madagascar vanilla EO

INSTRUCTIONS

Place all ingredients in blender, and blend until smoothie reaches desired consistency (about 2 minutes).

CINNAMON ALMOND GRANOLA

INGREDIENTS

  • 4 cups old-fashioned rolled oats

  • 2 cups shredded coconut

  • 1 ½ cups sliced almonds

  • 2 tablespoons chia seeds

  • ¼ cup flax seed meal

  • 1 teaspoon salt

  • 1 cup dried cherries

  • 1 cup dried cranberries

  • ½ cup honey

  • ¼ cup maple syrup

  • ½ cup coconut oil

  • 5 drops Cinnamon Bark oil

INSTRUCTIONS

  1. Preheat oven to 325° F.

  2. In large glass bowl, combine oats, coconut, sliced almonds, chia seeds, flax seed meal, and salt. Stir to combine.

  3. In small saucepan over medium heat, melt honey, maple syrup, and coconut oil together. Pour liquid mixture over oat mixture. Add essential oil. Stir until well combined.

  4. Pour mixture onto large metal pan and place in oven.

  5. Stir granola every ten minutes to help granola bake evenly.

  6. Bake for 30–40 minutes, or until granola is golden brown. Once done, remove from oven and let cool.

  7. Add dried cherries and cranberries. Store in airtight container.

WILD ORANGE CINNAMON ROLLS

ROLLS

  • 1 cup milk

  • ⅓ cup butter

  • 2¼ teaspoons dry active yeast

  • ⅔ cup white sugar

  • 4½ cups flour

  • 1 teaspoon salt

  • 2 eggs

FILLING

  • ½ cup brown sugar

  • 1½ tablespoons cinnamon

  • ¼ cup butter

GLAZE

  • 3 tablespoons butter, softened

  • ½ teaspoon vanilla extract

  • 1–2 drops Wild Orange oil

  • 1½ cups powdered sugar

  • 2–3 tablespoons cream or milk

INSTRUCTIONS

  1. Heat the milk in a pan until it begins bubbling. Remove from heat. Stir in butter.

  2. When the milk is lukewarm, add yeast and allow to proof for 10 minutes.

  3. Put sugar, 3 cups of flour, salt, and eggs into a mixer. Add in the yeast mixture. Mix thoroughly. Add in the remaining flour until the dough is no longer sticky. Knead for 5 min. Oil a large bowl and place the dough in the bowl. Cover with a cloth. Let rise in a warm place until it’s double in size (about an hour). Deflate the dough and put onto a floured surface. Roll out into a 12x14 rectangle.

  4. Mix your filling and spread over dough. Roll up the dough into a log and cut into 12 pieces. Line a 9x13 pan with parchment paper. Place the rolled dough pieces into the pan and cover with plastic wrap. Place in the refrigerator overnight.

  5. In the morning, remove from the refrigerator and set in a warm place to rise for an hour. Once the dough has risen, bake at 350 °F for 25–30 minutes, or until golden brown.

  6. Whip all ingredients of your glaze together and spread over warm rolls and enjoy.

ON GUARD BUBBLES

  • 1 cup warm distilled water

  • 1 tablespoon vegetable glycerin

  • 2 teaspoons sugar

  • 2 tablespoons doTERRA On Guard Foaming Hand Wash

INSTRUCTIONS:

  1. Add all ingredients to a medium sized mixing bowl and stir.

  2. Grab an old bubble wand or Google how to make your own, then head outside to blow some bubbles!

  3. Didn’t use all of your bubble mixture? No worries! Store it in an air-tight container for up to one month for already-prepped playtime.

AROMATHERAPY PLAYDOUGH

INGREDIENTS:

  • 2 cups flour

  • 2 cups colored water

  • 1 cup salt

  • 1 tablespoon olive oil

  • 1 teaspoon cream of tartar

  • 5 drops of essential oils

INSTRUCTIONS:

  1. Combine all ingredients, except for essential oils, in a large saucepan and stir until combined.

  2. Once combined, put over medium heat. Using a spatula, continue to stir ingredients together until it forms a ball.
    Note: Don’t overcook as it will lead to dry play dough.

  3. Remove from heat and cool on baking paper.

  4. Once cool, add five drops of your favorite essential oil and knead until thoroughly combined.

  5. Store in an airtight container in the fridge for months of fun.

BUBBLE BATH

INGREDIENTS:

  • 1 cup unscented castile soap

  • ½ cup vegetable glycerin

  • 2 tablespoons water

  • 15 drops preferred essential oil

INSTRUCTIONS:

  • Combine castile soap, glycerin, and water into glass bowl.

  • Add essential oils.

  • Stir until well combined.

  • Pour into glass container.

  • To use, add ¼–½ cup of the essential oil bubble bath mixture to warm, running bath water.

  • Note: These bubbles are not going to provide big fluffy bubbles that last a long time since it doesn't contain the synthetic ingredients that create the high amounts of lather or foam. However, this chemical-free bath will provide enough bubbles for a relaxing bath you will enjoy even more.

MONDAY MORNING

In your favorite diffuser add:

• 2 drops of Citrus Bliss®

• 2 drops of Bergamot®

• 2 drops of Spearmint

HOMEWORK HELPER

In your favorite diffuser add:

• 4 drops of Wild Orange

• 3 drops of Peppermint

AFTER SCHOOL

In your favorite diffuser add:

• 3 drops of Wild Orange

• 3 drops of Lavender

FRESH FOCUS

In your favorite diffuser add:

• 2 drops ofDouglas fir

• 2 drops of Breathe®
