Let’s talk about that summer glow—because there’s a fine line between “sun-kissed” and “sun-fried.” 😅

Whether you’re hopping in the car for a road trip, hanging out at the splash pad, or just trying to survive soccer practice under a blazing sun, your skin takes a hit this time of year. I used to grab the drugstore spray sunscreen and aloe gel without thinking twice… until I realized I was basically slathering my kids in endocrine disruptors and artificial dyes.

So, I started looking for better options—and I found some simple, natural ways to care for our skin before and after sun exposure, using the doTERRA oils and ingredients I already had on hand.

Here are my favorite go-to solutions for those sunny days (including a few that live permanently in my beach bag now).

🌿DIY AFTER-SUN SOOTHING SPRAY

What it helps with: Red, irritated, hot skin after a little too much sun.
Why it works: Lavender soothes irritation, Peppermint cools, Frankincense supports healthy skin recovery.
How to make it:

  • 10 drops Lavender

  • 5 drops Peppermint

  • 5 drops Frankincense

  • Optional: 1 tbsp aloe vera gel or witch hazel

  • Top with water in a 2oz glass spray bottle

Store in the fridge for an extra-refreshing feel! This spray is our go-to for sunburns, bug bites, and even heat rashes.

🧴CORRECT-X NATURAL HEALING OINTMENT

What it helps with: Dry patches, peeling skin, or sunburn recovery.
Why it works: Infused with Frankincense, Helichrysum, Tea Tree, and Lavender—all known for their skin-loving properties.
How we use it: After a long day in the sun, I’ll smooth this over our family's shoulders, cheeks, or anywhere looking a little too red. It’s like a natural Neosporin but made with the cleanest ingredients. Perfect for healing without stinging.

🍋DIY BRIGHTENING FACIAL SERUM

What it helps with: Skin discoloration, sunspots, and dull summer skin.
Why it works: Essential oils like Frankincense and Yarrow|Pom support cell regeneration, while Jojoba or Rosehip oil hydrate and balance.
How to make it:

  • 10 drops Frankincense

  • 5 drops Yarrow|Pom

  • Optional: 3 drops Blue Tansy or Rose

  • Fill 10mL roller with Jojoba or Rosehip oil

Roll on your face and neck every night before bed. Bonus: It smells like a spa, and your skin will feel like silk by morning.
